Mesentric Fibromatosis
Abstract
The fibromatosis is a benign, locally invasive and recurrent neoplasm affecting the musculoaponeurotic tissues in various parts of the body. However, intraabdominal fibromatosis is very rarely encountered and only 47 cases have been reported in western literature and 1 case report in Korea literature.
We experienced a case of mesenteric fibromatosis occuring in a 32 year old male. He was admitted to the Chung Ang university hospital complaining of right lower quadrant mass. When laparotomy was performed, a hard, well circumscribed round mass was noted in the mesentery of the terminal ileum, being adhered to the terminal ileum and right colon.
After the tumor was dissected from the retroperitoneum and surrounding tissues, right hemicolectomy with ileotransverse colostomy was performed. On the histopathologic examination, it was confirmed as mesenteric fibromatosis.
A brief review of the literature on fibromatosis was done.
